Jellyfish Museum Pompano Beach: A South Florida Field Trip You Don’t Want to Miss

Some field trips you plan for weeks. Some happen on a random weekday and end up being the coolest thing you’ve done all year. The Jellyfish Museum in Pompano Beach? Definitely the second one.

If you’re looking for something genuinely different to do with your kids in South Florida, something that isn’t maybe just another beach or park day, this could very well be it. The Jellyfish Museum is one of those places that will stop everyone in their tracks the second you walk in.

What’s inside

The museum is home to up to 25 species of live jellyfish from all over the world, displayed in beautifully designed aquariums ranging from small nano tanks to large panoramic displays. The whole space is bathed in blue lighting that makes everything feel like you’ve actually dropped to the bottom of the ocean.

Beyond the jellyfish tanks there are immersive 3D projections… what I mean by that are walls that transform into moving underwater currents. My boys and I were glued to every single exhibit and tank.

The homeschool angle (because there’s always one)

Here’s the thing about field trips that took me a while to learn, you don’t have to turn every outing into a formal lesson for learning to happen. Curiosity does the heavy lifting. But if you want the facts: jellyfish have been drifting through our oceans for over 500 million years. No brain, no heart, no bones. Older than dinosaurs. That one fact alone sparked a 15-minute car ride conversation I didn’t have to plan at all.

Any trip here naturally opens doors to marine biology, ecosystems, bioluminescence, and ocean conservation. Or you just let the kids stare in wonder and call it a day. Both are valid “homeschool” mornings.
